Dallas and Fort Worth each run a homebuyer assistance program with its own limits, and Texas state programs are also available. Across the metro, compare taxes and HOA fees by address, because they can change a lot between suburbs.
City assistance
- Dallas: the Dallas Homebuyer Assistance Program has listed up to $50,000, or $60,000 in high-opportunity areas, for eligible households at or below 80% of area median income. City documents vary, so confirm current figures.
- Fort Worth: the Homebuyer Assistance Program lists up to $25,000 for eligible first-time buyers through approved lenders.
Property taxes across the metro
The metro spreads across several counties, including Dallas, Tarrant, Collin and Denton. Look up the exact address with its appraisal district and compare the combined tax rate, since it can change from one suburb to the next.
HOAs and newer communities
Many newer neighborhoods have HOA fees, and some have special districts. Include these in your budget, then compare the total monthly cost of each home you're considering.
